New And Neat

This summer, SCC received the
Keokuk Pride Award for its campus
solar project.

The college partnered with Keokuk
Catholic Schools and Sunshine Power,
LLC to install 1,180 solar panels on
a two-acre plot of land between the
college and Keokuk Catholic school.

The project had several sources of
funding, including a grant from the
National Economic Development
Administration, funding from a
bond levy, and private fundraising.
Electricity generated is shared among
the partners.

After a four-year hiatus, SCC has a
learning center in Fort Madison once
again.

The center hosts adult education
programs and continuing education
classes. It is also used in conjunction
with the emergency response training
facility located across town for select
classroom training.

Special thanks to the Shottenkirk
family for the gift of the land and
building.
