Judge Richard P. Matsch

US Federal Judge Richard P. Matsch passed away on May 29, 2019. An alumnus of SCC, Matsch was appointed to the federal bench for the District of Colorado by President Richard Nixon in 1974. During a 45-year career as a federal judge, Matsch handled several high-profile cases, including the desegregation of Denver schools. However, he is best known for presiding over the Oklahoma City bombing trials. He and two of his brothers, Charles and Robert, were named Distinguished Alumni in 2003. The brothers established a scholarship shortly after they accepted the honor. We are grateful to Judge Matsch’s colleagues and fellow federal judges who donated to the scholarship in his honor. Memorials can be made to the Match Brothers Memorial Scholarship.
